Together with the surrounding streets, the old town comprises a graceful complex enclosed within the town gates and partly walled in by picturesque parts of the town walls, bastions and moats, with the towers of the old Town Hall rising above them.
Also a large Renaissance castle and the Regent brewery are found in the old town. A wide range of cultural events is on off er all year round – music and film festivals, gigs, theatre performances, fetes and craft and farming fairs.
